PETALING JAYA: The Government is concerned about the marriage of an 11-year-old girl that has gone viral on social media.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said she has instructed the officers from the Social Welfare Department to conduct a thorough investigation.
She said in a statement on Saturday that the Government is monitoring the issue closely.
“The Government is touched to see Malaysians so sensitive and responsive about this issue.
“Nevertheless, the decision that will be made has to be inclusive to ensure that the welfare and rights of each party are taken care of.
“The Government is determine to ensure that the legal system in the country is fair and that it protects the rights and dignity of each party, said Dr Wan Azizah, who is also the Women, Family and Community Development Minister.
She added that the Government will also study the gaps in the current laws to ensure that the rule of law in the country is the best for everyone.
Dr Wan Azizah also said there will be no discrimination or oppression against any party including children. She urged those who have information regarding the issue to report to the nearest Social Welfare Department and the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
