The National Population and Family Development Board (NPFDB) has conducted Second Strategic Plan for Population studies (PSK-2) which takes into account new policies related to demographics and family scenarios as well as the changes that occurred in the last one and a half decades ago in 2009. One of the components contained in the study concerned about the international migration. Results and findings of the PSK-2 and other specific surveys that have been carried out in Sabah found the presence of foreign workers in large numbers in Sabah which has resulted to pressure on basic social services, especially towards health and education aspects.
In addition, it also provides stress and anxiety in terms of security and politics. Accordingly, the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development through NPFDB has conducted studies of Indonesian Workers in Tawau, Sabah in 2010 to gather information simultaneously from various categories of respondents from Indonesian workers, local residents and employers who hire Indonesian workers. The main objective of this study was to collect socio-demographic information of Indonesian workers, pull factor, participation by sector and type of work, the impact of the inclusion on the local residents and also the proposed approach or appropriate measures for managing and controlling the Indonesian workers in this country.
