 Description:

The rapid development and economy as well as harmonisation of the population has made Malaysia as the attraction in the eyes of foreigners. Based on the Study of the Population Strategic Plan which was conducted by the National Population and Development Board in the year of 1992 found that international immigration has contributed 0.4 percentage points to the population growth rate of the country for the years between 1980-1991. This study also found that, apart from affecting demographics, the uncontrolled influx of foreigners will have implications for the country’s economy and social. Recognizing this fact, the National Population and Family Development Board (NPFDB) has taken the initiative by conducting a Kajian Kesan Pendatang Asing Ke Atas Penduduk Tempatan: Satu Tinjauan di Mukim Setapak and Ulu Kelang, Gombak, 2000 & 2001- aimed to identify issues related to the presence of foreigners to our country.

Studies using this qualitative method approach have been started since the middle year of 2000 and completed the fieldwork in mid-2001. Information on the demographic, economic, social and security implications for the local population has been obtained through face-to-face interviews with community leaders and group interviews with the locals. Through this method, accumulation of information related to the issues of the impact of foreign immigrants on the locals will be be made available with clarity. Thus, it will be able to be used as input to program planning and population and family development activities in the context of national development.
