Introduction
The LPPKN Research Grant 2025, or GP LPPKN 2025, represents LPPKNβs strategic commitment to strengthening evidence-based research in population, family development, reproductive health and social well-being. Implemented by the National Population and Family Development Board through the Population and Family Research Division, this initiative builds on the achievements of the previous LPPKN Research Grant 2021β2023 cycle and continues LPPKNβs role as a national leader in policy-relevant research. GP LPPKN 2025 was introduced at a time when Malaysia is facing increasingly complex demographic and social challenges, including declining fertility, population ageing, changing family structures, marital instability, reproductive health concerns and evolving social vulnerabilities. In response, the grant was designed not only to generate new knowledge, but also to translate research findings into practical policy inputs, programme improvements and targeted interventions.
The 2025 cycle received strong national interest, with more than 500 applications submitted by researchers from local higher learning institutions. Following a rigorous and competitive evaluation process, 20 research projects were selected based on their relevance, quality and potential contribution to policy, programme development and national well-being. The projects were implemented from May to December 2025 and covered three major themes: population, family development and reproductive health.
Objectives
The main objective of GP LPPKN 2025 is to support high-impact and policy-relevant research that contributes to Malaysiaβs population and family development agenda.
Specifically, the grant aims to:
- Generate new evidence on emerging population, family and reproductive health issues;
- Support evidence-based policy formulation, programme planning and intervention development;
- Strengthen collaboration between LPPKN, universities, researchers and strategic stakeholders;
- Encourage the translation of research findings into policy briefs, publications, modules and practical solutions;
- Strengthen LPPKNβs position as a national reference centre for population and family research; and
Support the implementation of the National KASIH Family Policy and the National KASIH Family Agenda through research-driven insights.

Key Outcomes
GP LPPKN 2025 has produced a significant body of research outputs that strengthen the link between academic evidence, policy development and programme implementation. The grant has generated 20 research reports, 20 policy briefs, 20 journal articles and research presentations at the National Population Conference. These outputs demonstrate a strong balance between academic excellence and practical usability for policy and programme planning.
Beyond producing research findings, GP LPPKN 2025 has strengthened LPPKNβs research ecosystem by creating a more dynamic and collaborative platform between researchers, policymakers and programme implementers. This reflects an important shift from research conducted in isolation towards a more integrated model where knowledge, policy and implementation are connected.
The findings from these 20 studies provide valuable evidence for strengthening national responses to key population and family issues. These include family well-being measurement, ageing preparedness, integrated family data systems, childfree decisions, adolescent bullying, divorce intervention, marriage tribunal reform, co-parenting, reproductive health services, subfertility support and early cancer detection.
More importantly, the outcomes of GP LPPKN 2025 are designed to be actionable. Several studies have produced practical recommendations such as policy briefs, intervention models, counselling modules, screening instruments, operational guidelines, data governance proposals and service improvement frameworks. These outputs provide a strong foundation for LPPKN to strengthen evidence-based policy advocacy, improve programme delivery and develop targeted interventions for Malaysian families.
GP LPPKN 2025 marks an important milestone in LPPKNβs research journey. It reinforces the role of research as a bridge between evidence and action, while positioning LPPKN as a key national institution in generating strategic knowledge for population, family and reproductive health development. Through this initiative, research is not only documented, but translated into insights, tools and solutions that can support a more resilient, inclusive and well-being-centred future for families in Malaysia.
